Brad Hardie admitted things were “awkward” with his former coach and fellow inductee Mick Malthouse at the Hall of Fame function.

But their long-running stoush wasn’t the only one which reared its head on Monday night.

Malthouse and Channel 7’s Mark Stevens certainly banged heads during the final year of his time at Carlton, usually live on air in the post-match press conferences on Friday nights.

We hear the pair found themselves in a group where welcome handshakes were being dished out. Stevens offered his but apparently the three-time premiership coach gave him fresh air.

Another uncomfortable silence was happening at one of the main tables at the front of the room.

Before the function Collingwood president Eddie McGuire had engaged in a full-on barney with Geelong boss Colin Carter after he presented a submission to the AFL presidents about rewriting the history books.

So what happened when they arrived at the Hall of Fame dinner? They were seated opposite each other at the same table.

One of the last bastions of tradition at the AFL is set for a makeover.

The league’s logo which has been around since the turn of the century is undergoing a facelift.

A team of designers have been engaged by the AFL to come up with ideas on how to modernise the logo.

And as we know with these sorts of consulting arrangements they don’t come cheap with industry sources suggesting it would cost a tidy six-figure sum.

The theory behind the move is that given how much the business has grown over the past two decades, the logo should also move with the times.

It’s believed one of the main options being considered is to have the ability to add flexibility to the logo so the colours can be changed according to the circumstances.

For example with the league now having competitions such as AFLW and AFLX, a logo could be designed to represent these modern additions.

Changing logos can be dangerous territory with several clubs over the journey dipping their toes into the modern age and getting torched.

The NRL introduced a new logo for this season after a two-year extensive research and consultation process which included engaging key stakeholders, fans, clubs and the media.

THE REAL STAR OF THE HOF REVEALED

THERE’S no doubt who the star of this year’s Hall of Fame has been.

Trevor Barker’s mother, Norma, has won over the hearts of footy fans just like her son did through the ‘80s for the Saints.

An emotional interview with the Herald Sun’s Mark Robinson brilliantly told Norma’s story which unfortunately she didn’t get to tell at the Hall of Fame function.

A new policy regarding speeches from relatives of inductees meant Barker’s mum was only seen and not heard.

Instead video tributes were used to acknowledge which were also moving but in the case of Barker a golden opportunity was clearly missed.

We’re told the new ruling was a result of research the league did with Hall of Fame members who suggested they would prefer the ceremony to be shrunk to allow more time for them to mingle with each other.

The AFL was buoyed by the response on Tuesday night with more than 60 inductees attending, the most for several years.
