All the tribunal and suspensions news from Round 4: Darcy Byrne-Jones, Oskar Baker under scrutiny

Darcy Byrne-Jones and Oskar Baker will miss Gather Round through suspension, while seven Power and Saints players have been slapped with fines for a melee. Jon Ralph has the details.

Port star in hot water for high bump?

Western Bulldog Oskar Baker and Port Adelaide All Australian Darcy Byrne-Jones have felt the wrath of the match review officer for head-high bumps that will see them miss Gather Round.

And seven St Kilda and Port Adelaide players have been handed melee fines as part of the scuffle at Adelaide Oval on Sunday as Zak Butters was hit with a pair of melee fines.

Butters was fined as the instigator of the melee and was also hit with a separate melee fine, adding to his total of $36,250 from previous incidents.

Baker has been handed a one-week ban for his hit on Fremantle’s Andrew Brayshaw during the Sunday night loss to the Dockers.

Baker did not contest the ball and instead hit Brayshaw in a head-high collision that made clear shoulder-to-head contact.

Brayshaw played on and has been hit with a one-week ban for a careless, medium-impact bump.

He will miss the clash against reigning premiers Brisbane at Norwood Oval if he accepts that suspension.

Fremantle captain Alex Pearce was fined for a head butt or contact to the head with Western Bulldogs player Josh Dolan and can accept a $2000 fine.

Byrne-Jones collected St Kilda’s Ryan Byrnes with a similar bump where he could have made the ball his objective but instead took out the man.

Byrne-Jones made forceful high contact and clearly elected to bump, so can accept a one-week ban that will see him missing against Hawthorn in the Sunday night clash.

In a week where the AFL cracked down on tunnelling after Bayley Fritsch’s fine for taking out Tom Stewart, GWS captain Toby Greene was also scrutinised.

But in his collision with West Coast’s Matt Owies he had his eyes on the ball for the entire contest until Owies came in at a different angle.

Greene turned to protect himself and braced for contact at the last second as Owies leapt to take the mark.

It means Greene is in the clear and will escape a penalty despite being footy’s most fined man given his long list of indiscretions.

Port Adelaide stars Connor Rozee, Butters and Mitch Georgiades were all fined for the melee, as were St Kilda’s Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Rowan Marshall, Jackson Macrae and Hugo Garcia.

Wanganeen-Milera was also fined for striking Georgiades with a jumper punch to the neck or head.
