Adelaide will not pursue Carlton’s Bryce Gibbs and appear unlikely to trade Charlie Cameron

ADELAIDE has said it has “moved on” for it’s pursuit of Bryce Gibbs and looks unlikely to release Charlie Cameron while St Kilda starts contract talks with Paddy McCartin.

ADELAIDE has “moved on” from Carlton ace Bryce Gibbs.

Crows’ list boss Justin Reid said the club would not pursue the contracted ball magnet after failing to broker a deal with the Blues last year.

“I wouldn’t have thought so (ask about Gibbs). We’ve moved on from there,” Reid said.

“Bryce is a contracted player. I think he’s happy where he is, so we’ll all move on.

“No one even requested a trade today to the Adelaide Football Club.”

Reid sensationally revealed last year that Gibbs asked to be trade back home to South Australia.

But Carlton, then blindsided by the homecoming bid, refused to budge on wanting two first-round picks for the prized midfielder — contracted until the end of 2019.

Carlton football director Andrew McKay said Gibbs had not made any further requests.

“No, no update … he’s a contracted player for another couple of years and we expect him to be with us for that period.”

The Crows held discussions with Brisbane — behind closed doors at Etihad Stadium — about speedster Charlie Cameron.

The explosive forward, contracted until the end of 2018, wants a trade for “compassionate reasons” but the Crows appear unlikely to release him.

“We had a quick chat with Brisbane but obviously he’s a contracted player and a required player in 2018 at the Adelaide Football Club,” Reid said.

The Crows plan to do their “due diligence” on Geelong speedster Steven Motlop, but out-of-favour Essendon utility Aaron Francis isn’t a priority.

Motlop toured the Crows’ headquarters at West Lakes on Monday.

St Kilda had no luck asking GWS Giants about Adam Tomlinson, while West Coast shut down any Andrew Gaff overtures.

In better news, Saints chief operating officer Ameet Bains said the club had begun contract talks with key forward Paddy McCartin.

“He’s obviously away (in the United States), so we will ramp that up when he returns with his management,” Bains told SEN.

“He’s very much a long term player. We’re certainly looking to tie him up for the longer term, and we think that he will be a great player for the footy club over that period.”

Paddy McCartin has had an injury-interrupted start to his career.
Paddy McCartin has had an injury-interrupted start to his career.

McCartin has played 22 games in three seasons at Moorabbin wrecked by injury and concussion.

His season ended in June when the former No.1 draft pick suffered a sixth concussion since 2014 while playing for Sandringham in the VFL.

The Saints will explore opportunities to improve their draft hand — currently hold picks No.7 and No.8 — and potentially re-enter the second round, traded to GWS last year for Jack Steele.

“We’re not going to do anything rash with those picks, if that’s the default position, we’re excited about it,” Bains said.

“No one asked specifically about any of our players, I think today there was a lot of shadow boxing among the clubs so I don’t think anything is close to happening with any club.”

Hawthorn is closing in on a deal with Port Adelaide for Jarman Impey — likely second or third-round draft pick — while North Melbourne expects big men — Todd Goldstein, Braydon Preuss and Majak Daw — to all be at the club next season.
