Real estate guru Antony Catalano triples his money on sale of St Kilda West mansion

Real estate mogul Antony Catalano is believed to have tripled the buy price on his St Kilda West mansion, as a wealthy Melbourne family snapped up the home for eight figures.

Real estate mogul Antony Catalano’s beachfront St Kilda West mansion has sold after he listed it last month with a $15.5m-$16.5m asking range.

Although Kay & Burton South Yarra partner Oliver Booth could not confirm the price, the former Domain boss has likely tripled what he paid for the 367 Beaconsfield Pde pad — which he and wife Stefanie purchased for $4.6m in 2011, according to CoreLogic records.

Hayley Lewis, the millionaire daughter of Computershare founder Chris Morris, and her husband Andrew Lewis are believed to be the buyers, with records showing the pair took out a caveat over the property earlier this week.

Ms Lewis took over the management of impact investments for Computershare last year, when her father stood down from the board of the share registry services company.

She is currently employed as the executive director of the Morris Group, with Mr Lewis also working for the company in a senior management position.

Mr Catalano’s sale comes as he gears up to move into his $30.5m St Kilda penthouse in one of developer Tim Gurner’s St Moritz buildings as the project nears completion.

Kay & Burton executive director Scott Patterson said the St Kilda West house was “one of the best homes in the area”.

“With a rooftop terrace that looks over the beach and the Catani Gardens, it’s in a pretty spectacular position,” Mr Patterson said.

“And the house itself was faultless.”

The Herald Sun understands two further $10m+ sales were notched in the first half of the month including 3 Coppin Grove, Hawthorn, listed for $11m-$12m, which industry sources indicated sold within its range, as well as 2 Daracombe Ave, Kew, which had been seeking $11m-$12m and is thought to have exceeded its guide price.

Sam Wilkinson handled both sales and would not comment on the particulars of the deals, but noted the “$10m-plus market has continued to show resilience” and added that there had been five offers made for the Kew address.

The Coppin Grove sale is in the same street where wealthy former Swisse multivitamin boss Radek Sali is selling a $14m-$15m block with a vineyard at No. 32, via Marshall White.

Mr Patterson added that the three sales had emerged from a “relatively patchy market”.

“So there might be a late surge as people now feel they have seen everything that will be available this year,” he said.

“The other thing that drives people at this time of year is being ready and settled for the new school year.”
