EXCLUSIVE: Melbourne’s Yummy Mummy stars have shot down claims they are anti-breast feeding and suggested online trolls stop getting their nappies in a knot.

An online petition started by the Australian Breastfeeding Project on change.org has called for a boycott of the show following a trailer for the soon to air Channel Seven series where Adelaide mum Maria DiGeronimo says: “Breastfeeding in public is illegal — you just don’t do it.”

The petition has so far garnered more than 14,000 signatures.

Lorinska Merrington, Jane Scandizzo and Rachel Watts, whose experiences with pregnancy and motherhood are followed in the series, have hit back at the claims noting they all, including DiGeronimo, breastfed their children.

“One mum thinks breastfeeding is illegal, and that is supposed to mean we all think breastfeeding is illegal? That is crazy and I am not happy about it at all,” Merrington said.

“We are all individuals, we all have our own values and opinions.”

“I breastfed until Jagger (her oldest child) was 14 months,” said Scandizzo.

“If it (breastfeeding) is illegal then they need to put me in jail and throw away the key because I have certainly done it,” said Watts.

The mums also defended themselves against criticism of their luxe lifestyles, seemingly dominated by luxury brands, over the top social occasions and nannies.

“I chose to live that lifestyle but my husband and I have both worked hard,” Merrington said.

“Regardless of me being in the show or not being in the show, I have always had this lifestyle, but the difference is the cameras have been slipped into it and they have filmed a lifestyle that I love and I enjoy and our family enjoys it.”

Said Watts: “There are no nannies in my household, girlfriend. I am not saying I am anti-nanny, but I have my own opinion and my own choice, and my choice is not to have a nanny.”

Model mum of two, Scandizzo, who also does not have a nanny, said the show was a lighthearted look at motherhood.

“It is supposed to be fun and, to be honest, I want to put my time into my children and I don’t have time to read nasty comments,” she said.
