Animals at Melbourne Zoo and Werribee Open Range Zoo are being live-streamed for the increasing number of people stuck at home because of the coronavirus.

Cameras are relaying live vision of snow leopard cubs, penguins, giraffes and lions via the Zoos Victoria website.

The three snow leopards cubs, who are yet to be named, were born on Australia Day and are growing up in their den under the watchful eye of mum Miska.

Zoos Victoria chief executive Jenny Gray said members and visitors loved the animals and this was a way to keep connected, including for those stuck at home.

“We wish you luck being able to focus on anything other than these amazing animals, especially the super-cute snow leopard cubs,” Dr Gray said.

All three zoos – Melbourne Zoos, Werribee Open Range Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary – are all still open to the public.

Late on Thursday, the live feeds had attracted more than 10,000 views, briefly overwhelming the website, prompting Zoos Victoria to add more capacity to cope with demand.
