A St Kevin’s teacher stood down last month has been suspended by the teaching watchdog.

Advanced maths teacher Simon Parris’ employment was “concluded” from the Toorak school in late February amid a series of staff removals over a child grooming scandal.

Mr Parris’ registration was under a grace period as a renewal was being finalised, but he has now been suspended under an interim basis.

Mr Parris’ lawyer Luke Connolly said “all issues will be ventilated before the Fair Work Commission in Simon’s unfair dismissal claim that has been filed”.

It comes after new principal John Crowley urged parents against employing tutors who were “unsuitable” to work with children.

The Herald Sun is not suggesting Mr Parris engaged in wrongdoing, only that allegations have been made.

St Kevin’s did not wish to comment on the matter.

Mr Parris was among five staff to leave the school in a month.

Former principal Stephen Russell and head of sport Luke Travers left after it was revealed they gave court references for convicted child groomer Peter Kehoe.

Former deputy principal Janet Canny stepped aside after court action was lodged against her over a complaint alleging breaches of mandatory reporting.

Director of studies and English teacher Gary Jones’ employment was “concluded”.
