Melburnians will get a long-awaited glimpse of the external facelift from tomorrow with the full building to be on display by Christmas.
Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan toured the site today in preparation of the scaffolding being removed.
She said it was an exciting moment in history.
“The scaffolding will start coming down tomorrow, revealing the beautiful facade,” she said.
“We can literally see work underway preparing and restoring our most beautiful icon.”
The clock tower has also undergone significant restoration including a new internal metal frame.
The glass face is currently being redone and will be on view in the coming weeks.
However, internally there is more work to done in the building including transforming the famous ballroom, which could be transformed into a new space.
The project is on track and will finish up next year.
