The motocross community is reeling following the tragic death of a star 20-year-old rider in Wonthaggi on Sunday.

Competing at the ProMX Championship, Ipswich man Brayden Erbacher was killed after a freak accident following a jump about 11am Sunday.

The 20-year-old is being remembered as a “very welcoming” man who had a “bright future ahead for his motocross career”.

Fellow rider Max Barrass told the Herald Sun he always had a lot of time for Mr Erbacher.

“I grew up racing him for most of my career and (he) was always a genuine person who had a lot to give for the people around him,” he said.

“He had a bright future ahead for his motocross career. He always came up for a chat to catch up when I saw him around and was a very down to earth guy.

“(He was) a very good-natured person, very welcoming and I had a lot of time for him. (He was) very determined with the sport as well.”

Close friend Adam Middleton said his mate always “lit up the room”.

“Today we lost an incredible human. You were an absolute champion,” he posted to social media.

“You lit up the room with your smile and were always so giving of your time for others.

“I love you so much and you will forever be with us.”

Friend Bailey Middleton took to Instagram to pay tribute to his mate on Sunday afternoon.

“I love you forever and always brother. Forever with me, (the) life of the party,” he said.

“I’m going to miss you so much mate, won’t ever forget you. I’ll look up to you everyday brother.”

Event organisers cancelled the remainder of Sunday’s event, issuing a statement online on Sunday.

“Motorcycling Australia regrets to announce that due to a serious incident, round one of the ProMX Championship at Wonthaggi in Victoria has been cancelled with immediate effect,” the statement read.

“While the incident is being investigated, there will be no further comment at this time. A statement will be made in due course.”
