With the Victorian state election fast approaching, here’s a guide on what you need to know ahead of voting.
When is the next Victorian state election?
The next state election will be held on Saturday, November 26. Voting is open from 8am to 6pm.
Who will win the next state election?
The Labor government, led by Premier Daniel Andrews, is seeking a third successive four-year term.
They will be challenged by the Liberal and National Coalition, led by Matthew Guy.
Other minor parties and several independents will also contest the election.
Can I do a postal vote online for the state election?
Victorians can apply to receive a ballot pack in the post for the state election.
Ballot packs will be posted from Monday, November 14 after all the candidates are known.
The quickest way to apply for a postal vote is by using the Victorian Electoral Commission’s online form.
Do I have to vote in the state election?
Yes, all enrolled Victorians have to vote in the state election.
You must enrol and vote if you are 18 years old or older, are an Australian citizen and have lived in Victoria for longer than a month.
Victorians must enrol to vote by 8pm on Tuesday, November 8.
If a vote is not submitted, a $92 fine may be handed down.
How do I vote before the state election?
Early voting centres will be available in every district in the state between November 14 and November 25.
Does it cost to nominate for the state election?
To be a candidate for a state election, the person must be correctly enrolled in Victoria.
The candidate doesn’t need to live in the district or region in which they are nominating.
Nominations must be accompanied by a deposit of $350.
I’m away. How do I vote in the state election?
Those who are eligible to vote in Victoria, but will be interstate during the voting period, can apply for a postal vote.
They can also vote in person at any other state or territory electoral commission head office in Australia between November 14 and November 25.
All overseas voting will be by post and there will be 27 postal ballot drop-off locations around the world.
When you apply, Victorians are encouraged to get ballot papers emailed to them.
A link will be sent to download and print the ballot pack so access to a printer is essential.
