How to vote early for the 2022 state election in Victoria

Printing delays and wet weather have pushed back the opening of 21 early voting centres. Here’s where you can vote early now.

Early voting begins in Victoria today

Some of Victoria’s state election early voting centres won’t open on time due to major printing delays and wild weather.

It’s understood 21 centres across the state have been impacted.

The Victorian Electoral Commission said the delays were due to issues with the printing of ballot papers and storms that lashed the state overnight.

“There will still be at least one early voting centre in every district across the state opening at 9am today,” a spokeswoman said.

“We encourage voters to check our online voting centre locator on the website before heading out to vote early today just in case their preferred early voting centre has been affected.”

The impacted centres are located in Rosanna, Carlton North, Travancore, Greenvale, Wallen, Coburg, Richmond, Dandenong North, Chelsea, St Kilda, Ashburton, Bentleigh East, Caufield, Camberfield, Oakleigh, South Yarra, Yarraville, Keilor East, Black Rock, Wyndham Vale and Williamstown.

They are expected to open at 12pm on Monday.

Victorians can cast their vote at early voting centres between November 14 and November 25.

You can also apply to vote by post until 6pm on November 23.

Ballot packs will be sent from November 14 once all the candidates for the election are known.

Victorians who are blind, have low vision or have a physical disability can vote by phone.

The Victorian Electoral Commission have also allowed people impacted by the floods in designated areas on or after October 13 to vote by phone.

If Victorians don’t vote before or on November 26, a $92 fine may be handed down.

Vote from interstate

Those who are eligible to vote in Victoria, but will be interstate during the voting period, can apply for a postal vote.

They can also vote in person at any other state or territory electoral commission head office in Australia between November 14 and November 25.

Vote from overseas

All overseas voting will be by post and there will be 27 postal ballot drop-off locations around the world.

When you apply, Victorians are encouraged to get ballot papers emailed to them.

A link will be sent to download and print the ballot pack so access to a printer is essential.
