The Christmas Day forecast has dropped — and Victoria is in for a treat.
Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a sunny top of 27C for the main event and a balmy 26C for Christmas Eve, following a “fantasy land” week of mostly warm weather.
Monday is set to reach 26C, Tuesday 27C and Wednesday 30C and 27C on Thursday before a cool change sweeps through, with Friday reaching a top of 22C.
The warm spell is a stark contrast to our chilly start to summer.
Bureau of Meteorology Senior Meteorologist Dean Narramore said that the lead-up to Christmas will be beautiful, “perfect for heading out to the beach”.
While many Victorians are keen to know what to expect as they make their New Year’s Eve and January plans, Mr Narramore said guessing beyond the next seven days is akin to “fantasy land”.
“But Christmas Day is looking nice, it should be mostly sunny with temperatures in the high twenties – beautiful for backyard cricket, hanging by the pool or just sitting out on your deck,” he said.
Although it seems La Niña plans on sticking around this summer, Mr Narramore said it has shown signs of “weakening”.
“It’s more observable in Queensland and New South Wales, but for us La Niña is more about some bursts of humid weather and a few storms,” he said.
“It might be slightly wetter in eastern Victoria but the rest of the state should have an average summer.”
This year Victorians will be treated to a warmer Christmas Day than last year, which was 21.7 degrees and sunny.
“It’s looking warmer in the mid to high twenties, so if warm is your thing then this year should be even better than the last.”
