Tributes flow for Greensborough mum Elizabeth Kelly who died nine days after cancer diagnosis

Three young children will face Christmas without their mum, who only learned she had cancer nine days before her tragic death.

Tributes flow for Elizabeth Kelly who died nine days after cancer diagnosis

Just over two weeks ago devoted mother-of-three Elizabeth Kelly learned she was battling an aggressive form of stage four cancer.

Nine days after the Greensborough mum’s tragic diagnosis, her young children and husband Adrian are tragically mourning her death, faced with a harsh reality of life without their mother and wife.

Mrs Kelly, 39, passed away last Thursday – 16 days after her first symptom from Metastatic Melanoma and little more than a week out from Christmas.

“Over the past few weeks whilst everyone was joyfully planning their Christmas rituals, supermum and superwife Liz, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma in her lungs, breast, spine and kidney,” long-time friend Russell Spear said.

Mr Spear said it quickly spread to her bones, lymphatic system and brain.

“Liz, with husband AJ (Adrian) by her side, started treatment on Monday in the hope of a miracle,” he explained.

Mr Spear launched a GoFundMe to support his childhood friend AJ, daughter Sienna, 7 and twins Fletcher and Scarlett, 5, as they take time to mourn the sudden gut-wrenching loss.

Generous donors have raises more than $80,000 in less than 24 hours.

“In the most tragic and utterly heartbreaking of events, Liz was rushed to hospital on Wednesday with what felt like a migraine,” he wrote online.

“The melanoma on her brain had bled and she passed away shortly after.
“She passed away with her husband and family by her side. No time to prepare, no chance to fight. It’s just not fair.”

Her twins were due to have their first day of school next year.

Mr Spear said words could not describe how difficult it was to lose “such an incredible woman.”

“Grief isn’t a strong enough word for what we feel, but we grieve for the loss of a daughter, a wife, a mum and a friend and for those 3 little kids who will now have their mum only in their memories, hearts and when they see the stars in the sky,” he said.

“Liz didn’t even get a chance to fight this.”

“No parent should have to tell their beautiful little kids that “mum won’t be coming home, that she’s now an Angel”.

Friend Dwayne Wathen also paid tribute to Mrs Kelly.

“The world lost an amazing friend, superstar mum and loving wife last week in Elizabeth Kelly.”

“I’m still going to annoy your husband about how we met in Croatia and made and became lifelong friends,” he wrote.

“We will never forget the positive way you went about life – no matter what the challenges, and more than most miss the laughs, smiles and direct chats.”
