Victoria Gardens Kmart shopper plays Santa pays for all lay-by items

A good Samaritan who wanted to do something nice for the community has paid off all lay-by items at a popular inner Melbourne Kmart.

Families struggling with the rising cost of living have had a pleasant surprise when a generous shopper kindly paid for all their items in a large retailer in Melbourne’s inner city.

Shoppers at Kmart’s Victoria Gardens store were blown away by the kindness.

The Secret Santa kindly paid off all the other customers’ lay-bys in full, bringing Christmas cheer to those doing it tough.

The good Samaritan insisted they remain anonymous and told staff they “just wanted to do something nice for the community”.

Kmart wouldn’t reveal how much was donated but it’s believed most of the items were Christmas gifts.

When told of the generous act, the customers were emotional, with some even brought to tears.

A Kmart spokeswoman said: “We are overwhelmed by our customer’s generosity at this time of year, and want to thank them for their act of kindness towards other members of our community,” she said.

“We are proud to call them one of our customers.”
