TAMARA Oudyn and Paul Higgins would appear to be in the box seat to take over as ABC TV Victoria’s main 7pm news presenter, after Ian Henderson announced his retirement from the role.
Henderson is stepping aside after nearly four decades at the ABC with his final bulletin set for Thursday October 11.

“After a long and rewarding career at the ABC, the time has come for me to explore some new directions,” Henderson said.
“It hasn’t been an easy decision, but I’m convinced it is the right one.”
Friends, after 38 years at the ABC, itâs time for me to pull up stumps. My last bulletin will be on October 11. Nothing sinister and NO relation to turbulence of the past week. Just a long-hatched retirement plan. Thanks for the fun & feedback. See you on the swings! Hendo

Oudyn and Higgins have been regulars in the chair in recent times when Henderson hasn’t been presenting.
In 2008, Oudyn replaced Kathy Bowlen as the weekend presenter of ABC News Victoria.
The 41-year-old has also hosted Stateline Victoria and filled in on News Breakfast.
Higgins is best known as the regular weather presenter on the Victorian bulletin.
ABC news director Gaven Morris paid tribute to Henderson’s smooth presentation.
“Ian knows the 7pm and understands how to speak to them,” Morris said.
“As a result, viewers have a unique connection with him and they’ll miss him on their screens — as we will miss him in the newsroom.”
Henderson joined the ABC in 1980. He was ABC Europe correspondent for four years as well as a state political and industrial reporter.
Henderson began presenting the 7pm news on weeknights in Victoria in 1992.
Morris said that Henderson’s replacement will be announced soon.
