Vehicle rammed, man shot in violent road rage brawl between two carloads of men in Fawkner

A violent road rage brawl between two carloads of men — in which a vehicle was rammed and a man chased and shot — has been captured on CCTV in Melbourne’s north.

Wild footage has captured a series of road rage events that led to a vehicle ramming and a 19-year-old male being shot in broad daylight in Fawkner.

The first incident, which involved a white Nissan Skyline and black Chery SUV, took place on Lovely St about 5.15pm on February 29.

The video, released by Victoria Police on Thursday, shows the SUV driving down the street with multiple passengers hanging out the windows screaming obscenities at the Skyline, which is following behind them.

The Skyline then stops at the intersection before reversing to pick up two men who were running down the street after them.

The second video, which was recorded a short time after the initial incident, again involves the white Skyline and a stolen gold Holden Rodeo.

The Skyline, which is parked at Charles Mutton Reserve, is rammed from behind by the Rodeo, before the four occupants of the Holden exit the vehicle brandishing baseball bats and a firearm.

A number of occupants from the Skyline flee as a man with a shirt tied around his face fires shots after them.

At one stage it appears the man brandishing the firearm walks up to the Skyline window and fires a shot at those left in the car.

The attackers return to the Rodeo and drive off and the occupants of the now significantly damaged Skyline also return to the vehicle and drive off.

It is not apparent at what point, and which one, of the men received the gunshot wound.

Five minutes after the incident at the reserve the gold Holden rodeo collided with a red Mazda on Western Ring Rd and Sydney Road on ramp.

The men fled the area leaving the Holden at the scene.

Armed Crime Squad detective inspector Adam Tilley said it was a “particularly concerning” incident that could have easily harmed innocent members of the public.

“Such a reckless use of firearms had the potential for a significantly more devastating outcome,” he said.

“We believe it was a targeted incident but we are keen to speak to anyone who has knowledge of those involved and what the motivation for the shooting might have been.”

The 19-year-old Clifton Hill man, who was previously known to police, was on Thursday refusing to cooperate with investigators.

He sustained a gunshot wound to the arm.

“He has not assisted in any way,” Inspector Tilley added.

“That is quite often the case unfortunately that some people (who) are shot do not want to take the matter further with police.”

Det. Insp. said there were children riding bikes and people walking their dogs in the nearby reserve just moments before the shooting took place.

“No concern at all for members of the public,” he added.

“It’s graphic, it really is graphic.”

Anyone with any information or who recognises the occupants of the black SUV or the men who exit the gold Holden Rodeo is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
