Dane Swan has revealed he recorded an unheard pilot podcast with late cricket great Shane Warne.

The former Collingwood star had teamed up with Warne and Andrew Johns for a new show prior to Covid hitting in 2020.

“They may have settled on a name but it didn’t get further than the two pilot episodes,” Swan said.

“Warnie and Joey had a few better stories than me, I just had some footy stories.

“Warnie had plenty of stories that were entertaining. Think it was his UK management that said ‘no we won’t be releasing that’.

“He was super generous and let us into his home, we recorded there. He was always good to me.”

Swan said he understands why there has been such a big outpouring of grief and emotion since Warne’s shock death from a heart attack a week ago.

“I can see why people loved him so much because he was relatable,” Swan said.

“Especially to young male Australians, we’ve all seen something in him. He’s a guy who smokes darts and eats baked beans that just happens to be the greatest leg spinner in the world. He never saw himself better than anyone, he was just one of the boys. We all saw a little bit of ourselves in him.”

Swan has just returned from three months in the US visiting the family of his partner Taylor Wilson. While over there last month their son, Tate, celebrated his first birthday.

“If I had unlimited money I probably wouldn’t be back, but you’ve got to start back in the real world,” he said.

“We’ve been stuck in a house for two years so it was finally nice to get out.

“I’m just about over the post-holiday blues.”

Swan visited the Rebel Highpoint store on Thursday, Victoria’s largest store, along with other sporting stars including Brendan Fevola, Archie Thompson, Adam Cooney, Libby Birch and Monique Conti.

He bought his first pair of footy boots at Rebel a few year ago, and is currently preparing for a one off match with Park Bridge in Brisbane and this season with St Kilda City.

“I’m coming from a long way back but I tried to have a kick the last few weeks,” Swan said.

“I’m certainly not in football shape but it gets me out of the house on the weekend anyway.

“We wanted to come back before footy and for all the whinging I do, I do love the game.

“I bought my first pair of boots about 2-3 years ago at my local Rebel in Prahran.

“I don’t know whether it’s been the longest three years of my life or the quickest with Covid … Taylor was pregnant with a child and I’m a Dad now, it’s a crazy thing to say.”
