A young hairdresser has been remembered by friends for her “big heart” and “happy soul” after she was tragically killed in a horror crash near Ballarat.

Alex Baines, 24, died when the vehicle she was a passenger in collided with another car near the intersection of Finchs Rd and Greenhalghs Rd in Bunkers Hill about 4.50pm on Monday.

A young girl, who was also a passenger in the same vehicle as Alex, was taken to hospital in a critical condition while the male driver suffered a shoulder injury.

The female driver of the other car involved and her passengers were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Kylaah Anne Head told the Herald Sun that the pain of losing her friend was indescribable.

“No more deep conversations, no more hearing her laugh out loud,” she said.

“There was nothing in the world like a hug from Alex when you needed it the most.

“She was always there for me, this world will never be the same again.”

Ms Head said Alex loved her job as a hairdresser and was nearly fully qualified.

“She worked so hard to reach for every goal she had, despite how much she had been through,” she said.

“She always smiled no matter what and her laugh would light up the room.”

Ms Head said Alex loved her mum, friends, family and her dog Bear.

Friend Dillon Ward described Alex as a kind and “magical” person.

“She would put others before herself,” he said.

“She was bubbly and made friends wherever she went.”

Mr Ward said Alex loved dancing and singing.

“She loved watching the TV show ‘Friends’, she loved her job, she loved going for drives and getting her nails done,” he said.

Tributes have continued to flow on social media with friends remembering Alex for her “happy soul”.

“You always knew how to brighten up a dark room,” Taylor-Michelle Schembri said.

“You were such a kind and happy soul who would do anything for anyone.”

Rubi Lee said Alex had a “big heart” and cared “so deeply” for her loved ones.

“You were always such a kind and lively person, one who could make friends everywhere you went,” she said.

“Even in times of hardship, you always remained a bright and bubbly girl.”

Police said the investigation to the cause of the crash remain ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
