Victorian families are forking out extra cash for school holiday fun as tickets to some of Melbourne’s most popular attractions surge in cost.

A review of entry prices to tourist attractions showed there was a price jump in 40 per cent of destinations compared to 2021.

Parents will pay between 5 per cent and 16 per cent more for trips to the Peninsula Hot Springs, Timezone, Melbourne Zoo and Werribee Zoo, the review by Compare the Market revealed.

A 60 minute Peninsula Hot Springs recharge bath house experience had the largest price percentage hike at 16.66 per cent.

Last year, a ticket to the hot springs was priced at $30 compared to $35 this year.

An hour of play at Timezone rose by 7.69 per cent and now costs $28.

Werribee Zoo and Melbourne Zoo also fell victim to an increase with adult tickets priced at $42, soaring by 5 per cent and 10.52 per cent.

Compare the Market’s Sarah Alexi said the price jumps will hit those who are already struggling with Australia’s cost of living crisis.

“Victorian families are already feeling the pinch with soaring fuel prices, rising gas and electricity costs, higher price tags at the supermarket, and even hikes to their insurance premiums,” she said.

“It’s proving to be an expensive time of year for many.”

Ms Alexi encouraged parents to shop around for affordable deals, discounts and free activities.

“There are several different cinema chains, bowling alleys, zoos and game arcades across Melbourne, each of which can set their own prices and offer their own deals,” she said.

“Whether you’re taking your little ones into the city for an adventure or occupying them with a game or two of bowling, plan ahead of time and pay as little as possible.

“A difference of a few dollars can really add up.”

In a win for families, ticket prices remained the same at Luna Park, Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium, Zone Bowling, Melbourne Museum and Ashcombe Maze.

A child ticket for a one day tour around Phillip Island dropped by 10 per cent.
