But the Herald Sun has been told it’s panic stations for one department in damage control mode ahead of the release of a potentially damning report into their handling of some of some rather sensitive matters.

Its contents, initially due to be released tomorrow, are expected to ruffle some feathers throughout the chain of command.

Those at the helm are believed to be scrambling, but have managed to keep critics at bay for another fortnight.

But when matters concern the care of vulnerable kids across the state, key figures behind the scenes may just be delaying the inevitable.
