The Source: How a former bikie tough guy could’ve been a Contender
He has brains as well as brawn but before he became a tough guy, Hells Angel boss, “Cool Hand” Luke Moloney could’ve been a contender — in reality TV land.

Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers.
Well-educated Hells Angel Luke Moloney has a forgotten career in reality TV.
The Source’s newspaper sibling, Deadline, revealed a while back that Moloney may be the only Australian to hold office in a bikie gang while also having a bachelor of arts degree in his bag.
Now, our attention has been drawn to his work in a 2009 series called The Contender, which aired on Fox8 and was probably a good deal more interesting than Married at First Sight.
The show centred on a bunch of boxers punching on in the ring, as well as looking into their lives and how they got along.
Publicity material stated the man with the letters “self made” tattooed across his abdomen comes in at 182cm and 79kg and is loyal, fun and committed.
“A pure boxer with great skills,” it states.
Essential in the world of boxing is a solid nickname.
Moloney went with “Cool Hand”, alongside other competitors, including Garth “From the Hood” Wood and Victor “The Crushin’ Russian” Oganov.
Moloney eventually lost to Kiwi Daniel Mackinnon, a bloke who was once in the WBO top 15.
Clearly, there are brains with the brawn of the man who set up the HAs’ Angel City chapter.
A plea hearing over a nasty assault meted out by two of his associates was last year told he had the arts degree.
The victim in that case had caused grave offence by fraternising with a member of the Mongols MC and came in for some rough treatment at Moloney’s Reservoir home.
The court also heard Moloney had renounced his Angels’ membership in favour of the straight life.
