Hopes are high that someone with a bigger following than even Virat Kohli could be heading to the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.

The Prime Minister has invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the MCG spectacular.

The pair talked about cricket during a meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro last week.

It’s unclear if Modi would receive the same pageantry as Albanese did when he visited Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad last year for the Fourth Test – where he was greeted with massive movie-style posters and rode around the ground in a chariot.

Modi visited two receptions at the MCG in 2014 alongside then-PM Tony Abbott when he visited Australia for the G20.
