The Source: Nine fires arrow at Caroline Wilson over Patrick Cripps report error
Channel Nine has taken an us and them approach to Caroline Wilson’s incorrect report about Carlton captain Patrick Cripps.

Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers.
There is no “i” in team, but there is in Nine, the network which pulled a bizarre “us and them” flex against footy doyenne Caroline Wilson.
The network apologised for claims made by Wilson on Nine’s Footy Classified that Blues star Patrick Cripps stayed in a separate hotel to his teammates during an away-game in Sydney.
That info was wrong.
But the mea culpa came with a disclaimer of sorts, with Nine’s Wide World Of Sports website reporting “The Age’s Caroline Wilson” made the mistake.
Way to deflect.
Cripps fired an arrow at Caro, via socials, on Tuesday. “I can cop criticism about form and losing but when it’s factually incorrect and questions my character and commitment to the team it pisses me off,” he said.

Dan awaits King’s nod before revealing governor
The next governor of Victoria has been selected, albeit with only 31 days remaining before the removalists descend on Government House for the end of Linda Dessau’s tenure.
And, still, we cannot tell you who the 30th governor of Victoria will be.
The appointment is made by Premier Dan Andrews, who on Tuesday revealed he has sought regal endorsement from King Charles.
Asked to identify his choice, Andrews predictably replied that such name-dropping would be “completely inappropriate”.
According to gambling-minded insiders, the odds on Victoria’s equal opportunity and human rights commissioner, Ro Allen, shortened in recent weeks.
But in a fanned field of candidates charging to the post, judicial luminaries such as Marilyn Warren, Lisa Hannan and Janet Whiting couldn’t be discounted.
What can be revealed is a little-known fact about Dessau’s time as governor.
There were 2016 headlines when she repaid more than $1000 for two meals at uppity London restaurants.
Yet it is believed that Dessau has donated much, if not all, of her governor stipend to charity since assuming the role in 2015.
With a salary reported to be upwards of $460,000 a year, that’s a royally rude amount of giving.
Chairman Dan’s China mystery solved
After a week of confusion, The Source has received an answer from Premier Dan Andrews’ office.
He will be speaking at the Post Pandemic China-Australia Economic Cooperation Forum with the China Chamber of Commerce in Australia (CCCA) Melbourne Branch on June 5, 2023.
Late on Monday, an Andrews government spokesperson said: “Our relationship with China is deeper than just trade – it’s a partnership built on respect, trust and friendship, and one that benefits all Victorians in every sector.”
Andrews’ purported appearance at the forum, which will be addressed by Chinese ambassador Xiao Qian, grew vexed when his office declined to confirm or deny the question of his attendance.
Veterans of China’s top spy agency, the Ministry of State Security, are said to staff the China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy, which is co “supporting” the Melbourne talk fest.
Andrews, of course, recently visited China – without pesky journalists, who might have asked unhelpful questions about a range of China policies which clash with western values of freedom and equality.
Why Melbourne gave rock stars the Kiss-off
Australian promoters for US band Kiss pitched for the rock superstars to do their final curtain show as part of Victoria’s exclusive music showcase Always Live.
But the live music initiative – which hosted one-off shows by Billy Joel, Dua Lipa and Nick Cave last year – gave Kiss a miss.
Instead Kiss, which toured their End Of The Road shows here last August, will perform and take their last-ever bow in Australia at Sydney’s Accor Stadium on October 7.
However, The Source can reveal Kiss promoters proposed a plan for the band to perform their so-called “final curtain” show, as an Always Live gig, at Marvel Stadium later this year.
“We put every pitch through a process, and there are a number of reasons we didn’t end up going with Kiss,” Always Live chief executive Steve Smith said.
“The Always Live brand tries to bring bespoke, special, unique opportunities to Victoria.
“Melbourne hasn’t missed out, because they saw (Kiss) last year,” Mr Smith added.
Some reports painted the Sydney coup as a snub to Melbourne, which is traditionally seen as a Kiss fan stronghold.
Melbourne hosted the band’s 2003 symphonic concert with the MSO, and accounted for the most dates – three shows – of last year’s tour.
Tim Smith, Cleese bond on ‘anti-woke’ network
Fresh from Insta beachside bonding with former federal minister Alan Tudge, one-time state MP Tim Smith is now cavorting with comedian John Cleese, who played along for an Insta pic over the weekend.
“It’s not often you get an earful from a comic genius,” Smith posted, referring to Cleese’s digit in said orifice.
The pair appear to have met at London’s GB News, which draws attention in Britain for its “anti-woke” stylings.
They have much in common — Cleese routinely rails against “cancel culture”.
The difference, perhaps, is that Cleese’s brand of car crash comedy is on purpose.
