Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers.
Victoria’s shock cancellation of the Commonwealth Games made rather embarrassing headlines around the world. Yet it seems some Victorians may still be holding on to the dream.
There’s a social media account for everything nowadays (hello Montague St bridge). For the games, Victoria 2026, @CommGames had been dutifully tweeting countdowns.
Six days on from Premier Dan Andrews’ surprise news/stand-up comedy routine – that we will drop the event, even though it had been a really cool idea to take the Games, so let’s move on, and think about the hospitals and the schools, so there – the account is yet to be taken down.
While its pinned tweet is a statement on the dramatic break-up, the bio still makes for an amusing read – the event will be “a games like no other, in a place like no other”.
“From 17 to 29 March 2026, Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat, Gippsland and Shepparton will be on the world stage,” it continues.
While we can no longer count down the (Marginal Electorate) games, we can follow the countdown for finding out how much it will cost not to stage the games, which might be $1 billion, and surely warrants its own social media account, given such money could otherwise have been spent on hospitals and schools.

Gangland widow’s live show hits hitch
Roberta Williams promised candour for her upcoming live show, along with daughter Dhakota, and so far she hasn’t let anyone down.
The event My Life Our Life is pencilled in for August 19. But exactly where the Q and A will take place remains unclear after Williams posted that the touted Moonee Ponds venue was no longer available.
It follows a postponement of the event which was initially set down for May 27.
“Im (sic) so sorry for the inconvenience it is out of our control,” Williams posted of the venue shift.
Williams has told the Source the show will be a free-flowing affair in which the crowd can ask whatever they want.
“I’m not Carl, I’m me,” she said, referring to her ex-husband who killed his competitors during the Gangland War.
“People have issues in life. Move on.”
Those who have paid their $80 a ticket have been assured that event details will be updated soon.

See the Bomber lace up!
Essendon star Dylan Shiel is set to become the first ever AFL player to release a custom sneaker.
Sheil’s sneaker collaboration, with lifestyle brand Athletikan, will drop on Thursday.
However, Athletikan has already got on the front foot with the campaign and leaked the news of Shiel’s custom sneaker — the DS09 — on social media.
“We’ve teamed up with the AFL superstar to create a limited edition “DS09” sneaker release,” Athletikan blabbed on Instagram on Friday.
“The sneakers were personally designed by Dylan and the Athletikan Team.”
