The Source: Did AI predict future with Nick Reece’s Melbourne park under freeway?

Lord Mayor Nick Reece may not have liked the results when he used AI to create images of park he’s planning under a Melbourne freeway, but the result may turn out to be eerily close to reality.

Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers.

Using AI to create futuristic images can be a fraught exercise. Just ask the Lord Mayor.

Nick Reece is campaigning to continue in the top job and has been trumpeting his plans for more parks in the city, if he is elected. That includes a new park and playground at Southbank — under a freeway, no less.

But anyway, the AI generator has created an image with a dead (or sleeping?) body with a spare arm. And what looks like ceiling fans under the freeway. And a little old man in a T-shirt dress — we think.

Other images featured a woman with two right arms and a shoe suspended in mid-air. Maybe it had been thrown by a real designer upset that their job had been taken by a robot.

Reece went into crisis management mode late on Monday, posting another image with flying cars, a robot giant and, um, piles of gold bullion.

“You guys should have seen the originals!” he joked.

X user Rhys Parton was defiant though: “Funny. But support the Arts next time, hire an artist.’’

Ouch!

Allan minister not on same Facebook page as boss

FFS, Jacinta will be thinking.

The premier stridently took to social media just a fortnight ago, announcing it was time for a major change to protect our kids from the dangers of the online cesspit.

With JA promising to ban children under 14 from using social media, Anthony Albanese then jumped on board to say he would work with the states towards a national ban, to the great relief of millions of parents and applause of many education experts.

But one of Jacinta’s ministers is not on the same social media page, it seems.

The Source has been very reliably told that the minister didn’t mince words when they made it abundantly clear to their child’s school that not only did the student use social media, they would not be putting a stop to it.

This despite the minister’s child, and their classmates, being involved in a school seminar outlining the dangers of social media and recommending ways to mitigate against it, including just switching off.

When the school contacted the minister encouraging them to support this initiative, they stated bluntly that their child should and would be free to Snapchat away as long as they liked.

As if Allan needed another minister to go to war with.

Watch this space.
