Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers.
With high profile and distinguished members including Eddie McGuire, Andrew Dillon, Neale Fraser, Craig Kelly, Brendon Gale, and Gerry Ryan, you’d think the Carbine Club would exude a bit more class.
But no. At the club’s annual AFL Grand Final luncheon, the league’s soon-to-be-departing boss Gillon McLachlan was heckled by a loudmouth.
Gillon was interviewed by his brother Channel 7 broadcaster Hamish McLachlan.
Asked if Gillon had any regrets during his tenure at the AFL, his reply was cut short by a heckler who snorted: “Didn’t get the Voice up, Gill!”
Gillon ignored the comment.
The same bellower yelled out after McGuire told the room Dan Andrew was leaving Spring St. “Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Dan,” the Carbine Club’s resident jester said.
Adem Somyurek takes farewell dig at Dan
the polarised farewells to Premier Dan Andrews stands a simple tweet from former friend, now sworn enemy, crossbencher Adem Somyurek.
Somyurek was an ALP factional heavy who lost his cabinet perch, then ALP membership after unhelpful allegations of party branchstacking emerged.
“I’m still standing,” he wrote, posting the music clip by Elton John, which opens with these lines:
You could never know what it’s like
Your blood, like winter, freezes just like ice
And there’s a cold, lonely light that shines from you
You’ll wind up like the wreck you hide behind that mask you use
