Man charged after leading police on a high speed chase

AN UNLICENSED teen driver led police on a wild chase before smashing into a level crossing in Melbourne’s southeast this morning.

Undercover police spotted the Ford Territory at a closed petrol station on the Nepean Highway, Chelsea at 3.10am.

The car sped away before police could pull it over.

Police caught up with the car after it crashed at a level crossing near Kelvin Grove.

The driver, a 17-year-old Bonbeach boy and passenger, an 18-year-old woman, were unharmed.

The boy returned a positive drug test and is expected to be charged with a number of driving offences.
