Taylor Swift mural in Melbourne’s Hosier Lane painted over with tribute to slain gorilla Harambe

THE Hosier Lane mural honouring the “death of Taylor Swift” has been painted over overnight, with a tribute to an entirely different kind of death.

THE Hosier Lane mural honouring the “death of Taylor Swift” has been painted over overnight.

The graffiti now states, “In loving memory of Harambe” — the gorilla shot dead by zookeepers in the US after a young boy fell into his enclosure.

Taylor’s hair remains but her face has been replaced with cartoon features.

Swift’s likeness was painted in the city laneway with the epitaph “In loving memory of Taylor Smith 1989-2016”.

Underneath the picture it was written: “No tags please respect the dead.”

Around 3am this morning, the artist of the original Taylor work, Lushsux, posted on Instagram with the caption, “WHO DID THIS?!?!”

Lushsux told The Herald Sun someone Snapchatted him yesterday showing that something crude had been painted over Taylor’s mouth.

“I went down to Hosier at around three in the morning to see if any rabid Taylor Swift fans had added to the mess and was greeted with a Harambe memorial instead of a Taylor Swift,” he said.

“Got to just laugh about that I guess.”

Lushlux said it would have been nice if Taylor had have lasted a bit longer.

“But Hosier Lane is notorious for this kind of thing — nothing lasts there.”

He isn’t planning on restoring Taylor to her former glory, rather he is planning a bigger mural on a wall in a different location.

The artist, who has almost 100k Instagram followers, had recently posted that Taylor Smith’s (as she was referred to in the original art work) lawyers had recently contacted him threatening legal action if the mural was not removed.

Today, Lushlux would not comment on legal matters.

Only yesterday morning he had posted a description of the Taylor mural, with the caption: “The recent passing of @taylorswift is heart wrenching. Come and leave some flowers and light some candles at her memorial in Hosier Lane in honour of her memory. If you do please DM photos of you doing it. #taylorswift #kimexposedtaylorparty #kimkardashian.”

He said his original intentions behind the idea were purely to poke fun.

Two weeks earlier he depicted Kim Kardashian posing for a naked selfie in a 9m-tall mural on the side of a print shop in Gwynne St, Cremorne.

The real American songbird is on holidays in Australia with actor beau Tom Hiddleston.

She is waging a war with Kanye West and Kardashian over a leaked phone conversation.
