A Melbourne woman has been left “absolutely heartbroken” after she had her Taylor Swift ticket “stolen” from her Ticketek account less than two weeks out from the megastar’s concert.
The 21-year-old purchased a VIP ticket for $659 on December 3 for the February 18 show in Melbourne through the Ticketek Marketplace app after weeks of trying to secure a seat.
Rebecca received email confirmation of her purchase and had a ticket in her Ticketek account.
But weeks later when the Swiftie went on the app to check her ticket, she was shocked to find it had “disappeared”.
“When everyone had started receiving their VIP packages and I hadn’t, I was starting to get a little bit worried,” she said.
“I checked my Ticketek account and the ticket was gone.”
Rebecca said after days of trying to get through to Ticketek on the phone, her mum went into an office in the city, with an employee telling her the ticket had “glitched out” of her account and was relisted for sale.
“(The employee said) someone else has it, we don’t know who, we can’t check or track who has your ticket,” she said.
“I have essentially had my ticket stolen from me.
“It’s scary to know our accounts aren’t secure enough to hold our tickets once they’ve been purchased.”
She said the Ticketek website was “absolutely useless”.
“Bots (are) getting through when actual customers can’t, scalpers are charging customers thousands of dollars on sketchy websites, countless buyers (are) finally securing a ticket, making it to the checkout only to have the site glitch on them – their payment processed, but no ticket or confirmation,” she said.
“Ticketek needs to make some serious changes because this is beyond wrong.”
A Ticketek Spokesperson said: “Ticketek apologises to Rebecca for any confusion. We can assure Rebecca that she now has tickets in her account. We have now reached out to Rebecca to confirm.”
Other ticket buyers shared their similar stories in the comments on the viral TikTok, which has amassed more than 250,000 views.
“Exact same thing happened to me, took days to get in contact and be issued a refund, which all up I received no apology. Will never use Ticketek again,” one wrote.
“I had three tickets scammed from my account for Dom Dolla in Melbourne in December and re-sold off Ticketek Marketplace. Didn’t know until we tried to get into the venue on the night and our tickets were cancelled,” another wrote.
Swift will take to Melbourne on February 16 to 18 and Sydney on February 23 to 26 during the Australian leg of her global The Era’s Tour.
Swift is set to inject more than $1.2bn into Victoria’s economy with crowds expected to hit 260,000 over the three nights.
