A 17-year-old boy involved in the deadly stabbing of Hashim Mohamed during a clash at St Kilda foreshore boasted of the horrifying act in disturbing song lyrics.

A youth involved in the fatal stabbing of Hashim Mohamed wrote lyrics boasting that he was the “talk of the town” after the deadly assault.

Hashim, 18, was killed after a chance encounter between his group and a rival youth gang known as the Original Gangster Killers descended into violence near St Kilda’s busy foreshore in December 2022.

The Supreme Court on Friday heard lyrics were found on the phone of one of the boy’s involved in the group attack — who was 15 at the time — bragging about Hashim’s death.

“We juuged (sic) him up left the scene all red,” he wrote.

“Hashim got knocked coz he got in the mix.

“You will get blicked n you will get stripped. Try play me you get put in a spliff.

“He on the news now I’m the talk of the town.”

References were also made to a car accident which Hashim survived but killed four of his mates.

Now 17, the teenager was initially charged with murder but pleaded guilty to a lesser offence of manslaughter after prosecutors were unable to determine who struck the fatal blow.

The pre-sentence hearing heard a verbal altercation between two groups of young males turned violent after members from both sides produced knives near St Kilda Beach about 7.40pm on December 4.

Hashim’s group began to retreat but the teenager, who was unarmed, tripped over before he was set upon.

He tried to defend himself but was stabbed in the lower back and legs before one of the boys plunged a black-handled kitchen knife into his back.

His attackers fled but some later returned and yelled “you f--king scum, you got what you deserved” and tried spitting on him as he lay unconscious and bleeding on the ground.

The assault took place in front of horrified beachgoers who rushed to Hashim’s aid.

He was taken to hospital with the knife still in his back but he couldn’t be saved.

On Friday, Crown prosecutor Kristie Churchill read victim impact statements from his mother and brother which described how his violent death continued to haunt them.

“I see him in my dreams, even now I still hope he will still walk through the door,” mother Ashir Osman said.

Hanad Mohamed said the image of his baby brother’s lifeless body was seared into his consciousness.

“The enormity of this tragedy has forever altered my existence,” he said.

Some of the boy’s co-offenders were arrested on the night but he was not taken into custody until December 15.

The court heard images were found on his phone depicting police with the captions “on the run” and “come catch me”.

DNA and fingerprints from a knife sheath, and phone data placing him close to the scene also linked him to the assault.

A youth justice pre-sentence report will be prepared before the boy, who has been in custody since his arrest, will be sentenced.

His six co-offenders have already been sentenced over lesser charges including affray and violent disorder.
