Summer construction blitz: Your guide to Melbourne road works

MELBURNIANS are in store for some painful traffic delays over the next few months. Here’s the planned transport disruptions to help you plan your travel.

MELBURNIANS are in store for some painful traffic delays and road closures in 2018, with major works underway on the M80 Ring Road and Tullamarine Freeway.

And there’s the ongoing level crossing removal program.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT DISRUPTIONS: FULL GUIDE

MOTORIST HELL BEGINS ON HODDLE ST

HODDLE STREET

Expect significant delays around Hoddle Street from Sunday 7 January to Sunday 14 January.

Hoddle Street remains closed between Noone Street and Victoria Parade.

All access to and from the Eastern Freeway at Hoddle Street is also closed.

The good news is that buses are still running according to normal timetables and the Night Network will remain operational.

Routes 200, 207, 246, 250, 302, 303, 304, 305, 318, 350, 905, 906, 907 and 908 will be running however allow extra time for delays.

M80 RING ROAD

A lot of work is being carried out on the M80 Ring Road but it will be worth it with extra lanes and a freeway management system to be installed.

Greensborough Bound

The Ring Road will be closed in the Greensborough direction between the Calder Freeway and Sunshine Avenue from 9pm on Friday 12 January to 5am Monday 15 January.

Altona Bound

Closed in the Altona bound direction between Sunshine Avenue and the Calder Freeway from 9pm on Friday 19 January to 5am Monday 22 January

Princes Freeway/M80 Ring Road Interchange

Reduced speed limits and temporary lane closures will be causing delays on Saturday January 13 and from Saturday 20 to Sunday 21 January

CITYLINK/TULLAMARINE FREEWAY

Fortunately most of the Tulla roadworks will take place at night.

The good news is that most of the Tulla works will be carried out during the evening, with closures every night from Wednesday 3 January to Saturday 20 January.

If travelling at this time make sure you allow plenty of extra time, especially if you’re heading to the airport.

Tullamarine Freeway at Mickleham Road outbound

A diversion will be in place via the Mickleham Road entry and exit ramps from Thursday 11 January to Sunday 14 January 10:00pm — 6:00am.

Tullamarine Freeway inbound between Melbourne Airport and Mickleham Road

While the Tulla inbound is closed traffic will be diverted through the airport, so make sure you allow extra time during the following periods:

12 January and 13 January 11:00pm to 7:00am

•14 January to 17 January 11:00pm to 5:30am

Tullamarine Freeway full closure between Melrose Drive and Melbourne Airport

During this full closure on Saturday 13 January 10:00pm to 7:00am you will not be able to access Melbourne Airport or Sunbury Road from the freeway.

Tullamarine Freeway outbound closure between Terminal Drive and Centre Road

A detour will be in place for all traffic heading to Sunbury from Thursday 18 January 9:00pm to 21 January 6:00am. Further details can be found here.

LEVEL CROSSING REMOVALS

Poath Road, Hughesdale

From Sunday 7 January to Friday 12 January lanes will be closed in both directions however two-way traffic will be maintained

Grange Road, Alphington

Temporary lane closures in both directions from Friday 19 January to Monday 22 January

SPENCER STREET SEWER UPGRADE

Beware of traffic changes around the Lonsdale Street intersection including lane and pedestrian crossing closures until Thursday 1 March 2018.

LYGON STREET

Tram works between Elgin Street and Weston Street will close Lygon Street until Tuesday 16 January 2018.
