A new park and resort-style pool feature in the stage one completion of a $2.8 billion multi-tower complex at Southbank.
Melbourne Square will eventually have six towers including a hotel and office building, but open now are twin apartment towers comprising 1054 units, a double-level Woolworths store and childcare centre.
Malaysian-based developer the OSK Group is behind the Kavanagh St project built by Multiplex and designed by COX Architecture.
It has an outdoor lap and wading pool area with a terrace, and an indoor pool with views over Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, two gyms, sauna, yoga studio and private dining areas.
The public has access to a 3745 sqm park, and shopping and hospitality areas.
Tower interiors were done by Carr Design Group.
OSK property sales and marketing director Scott Jessop said the project already had a positive impact on the community.
“Melbourne Square aims to deliver an elevated lifestyle experience for residents while
championing the concept of a two-minute neighbourhood,” he said.
“While last year had its challenges, it was immensely rewarding to see our parkland and Woolworths supermarket playing a supporting role for the public during a time of uncertainty.”
COX Architecture director Paul Curry said: “The Melbourne Square masterplan is an exciting public realm focused addition to the city’s urban fabric, it’s fantastic to see the project creating value for the broader precinct.”
“It will continue to generate public and economic benefits throughout its development journey.”
Lord Mayor Sally Capp said the precinct enhanced inner city liveability.
“It’s a great example of where public realm and private realm are combined, there’s more than 4000sq m of public open space, and another 10,000sq m of private open space delivered to very high quality,” she said.
“It really underpins our status as one of the world’s most liveable cities, and it delivers on economic stimulus now.”
The two completed “elliptical” towers stand at 236.7m and 184.3m respectively.
Communal spaces for residents also include games like table tennis, billiards and Mahjong.
The overall development, considered one of the biggest ever in Victoria, is due to be completed in five stages.
