SALTY dogs have long shredded Anglesea’s most pristine point break, but none froth quite like this hardcore hound.
The most goofy surfer at Point Roadknight may not be able to hang ten, but Spike makes waves wherever he goes as he soaks up a second chance at life.
Time was almost up when the rescue dog was adopted by a Middle Park family five years ago.
“We adopted him from The Lost Dogs’ Home — he would have been put down the next day,” owner Rob Lorenzon said. “We’re just so lucky.”
After seeing Mr Lorenzon and teen son Mats surfing during their beach holidays, it wasn’t long before Spike jumped on board.
“He just loves to do what we do,” Mr Lorenzon said.

“When we would go snorkelling, he would come out and dive with us — every day was a surprise, something new.
“He’s had a couple of solid, headhigh waves ... he really likes the thrill of racing across the face of it.”
Wipe-outs end with a quick shake-off and doggie-paddle back to the board, ready for another ride.
When he’s not chasing waves, Spike’s diving to the bottom of rock pools.
“Spike is part kelpie, ridgeback, labrador — and maybe penguin,” Mr Lorenzon said.
