Motorists will be warned about mobile speed camera locations this holiday period amid an ongoing pay dispute involving operators.
From Saturday, speed camera workers will warn drivers as they are approach a speed trap.
The operators are expected to display signs outside their vehicles advising drivers to slow down as well as shutting off cameras for up to 14 minutes at a time.
The Community and Public Sector Union’s industrial action comes as operators push for a pay rise from employer Serco, a multinational government services company that is also facing strike action from members of the Australian Services Union.
The CPSU is also fighting for safer working conditions and better protections following several recent attacks on camera operators.
Earlier this month, Victoria Police also began warning motorists about speed cameras amid ongoing pay negotiations with the state government.
The police union, however, paused its campaign of industrial action this week after Victoria’s police enterprise-bargaining deal was extended by six months.
