A rural Victorian pub has been slammed after a staff member posted an image of a charred pizza on social media, mocking the devastating fires that ripped through Maui.
The post, by a staffer from the Rokewood Hotel, which pictured a charcoal pie with the caption “Hawian pizza” (sic), has copped backlash from punters and community members.
The post’s attempt at making light of the Hawaiian tragedy struck a nerve with many social media users, who called it out as offensive to those affected by the ongoing catastrophe.
The death toll from Maui’s wildfires has risen to 111, and more than 1000 people are still missing.
Followers of the Rokewood Hotel Facebook page expressed their dismay and disappointment, denouncing the post’s insensitivity and demanding accountability from the group’s administrators.
One user slammed the post as disgraceful while another called it incredibly disrespectful and inappropriate.
