Richmond man chases alleged butcher shop burglar from home
A Richmond man has been left shaken after chasing an alleged butcher shop burglar from his York St home, near the suburb’s controversial safe injecting room.

A Richmond resident has been left “shaken” after chasing an alleged burglar from his home this morning.
Police are investigating the “aggravated burglary” in Richmond, after which the alleged offender entered a nearby York St home just after 10am.
The resident confronted the man, who fled empty-handed along Church St and was last seen at the intersection of York and Lennox streets.
“Two other adult women were home at the time of the incident and no one was injured,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
“Yarra Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating and appeal to anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.”
The man was described as caucasian, aged in his 20s to 30s, and was wearing a navy jacket and blue shorts with white stripes.
Richmond residents have told the Herald Sun that the man had attempted to rob a butcher shop in Lennox St, before fleeing to the York St home.

Public order response police, local officers and bicycle police all descended on the area — close to North Richmond’s controversial injecting room.
Police confirmed that they spoke to “a man matching the description of the offender at a health facility in North Richmond” but that no arrests had been made.
One resident said the man who chased the alleged offender from his property was left shaken by the incident.
“He was really shaken up and was still catching his breath,” the resident said.
“I think he was overwhelmed by the situation and was feeling very anxious about it.”

It is understood that students were in class at the time of the alleged robbery.
