Melburnians have flocked to the beach today, as the city swelters through 32C heat.
While the temperature is yet to hit the expected top of 34C, there was plenty of fun in the sun.
If 34C is reached, it will mark Melbourne’s hottest day during the 10th month of the year since October 5, 2015.
But it would take another dramatic rise for it to be the hottest October day on record.
No need for a beanie tomorrow, here comes the heat. Temperatures will rise well above the October average across #Victoria Thursday, with most areas of the state expected to have their hottest October day in 4 years. Keep track of #VicWeather at https://t.co/UYVuRwgKlp pic.twitter.com/0cE3bCIio7

That came all the way back on October 24, 1914 — 105 years to the day — when it reached 36.9C.
Sleeping tonight could be difficult, with the temperature still expected to be sitting at around 28C at 11pm.
In the state’s north, where there is a total fire ban in place for some areas, it will get to 38C (Mildura), 37C (Kerang) and 36C (Shepparton).

However, the hot weather will be short-lived, with a cold front to set in by the weekend.
Victoria is not alone in sweltering through the next few days, with our southeastern neighbours also feeling the heat.
BOM forecaster Sarah Scully said that a national heat outbreak is extending across southern Australia, with temperatures expected to be 12 to 16C above October averages.
“We’re expecting a peak of 36C in Adelaide,” she said.
“The heat will be contracted to the east coast of the country, including Sydney.
“(Tomorrow) we’re predicting the inland western suburbs to reach 36C, while the eastern areas including the harbour are expected to reach 32C.
“The cool front will hit Sydney on Saturday, cooling the east coast down, while it will remain warm in northeastern NSW.
“These hot and windy conditions are concerning for the regions where there are current fire sites.”
Thunderstorms are expected in the warm spell’s wake, as the cool front makes its way across the country.
“The unstable conditions brought about by the cold front bring with it the chances of storms, rain showers and hail, as well as a chance of raised dust in inland areas,” Ms Scully said.

“Behind the front, we’re forecasting snowfall in the alpine regions from Friday onwards.”
While the heat may seem extreme for late October, Ms Scully said that hot days will become more common as Summer approaches.

“It’s not unusual to get these hot temperatures ahead of cold fronts in spring, as we move towards the summer months,” she said.
A high chance of showers are expected in Melbourne tomorrow with a top temperature of 24C and a minimum of just 21C.
Victorians will be brought back to reality on Saturday when showers are expected and the maximum temperature will be 17C for both weekend days.
