But his return to game day action will be a cameo for a good cause rather than a permanent shuffling of seats in the AW commentary team.

Hunt, 68, will call the EJ Whitten Legends Game on Friday for AW.

“When I first started broadcasting I used to write the letters A.P. E in front of me,” he said.

“They stood for accurate, passionate and entertaining and I will be preparing just as hard for this game on Friday night as I would for a Grand Final, so I am taking it pretty seriously.

“But any thoughts of me returning to the commentary box (permanently) are absolutely far fetched.

“I’m looking forward to going down into the rooms, shaking a few hands, doing a few interviews and when the ball is ready to be bounced just go bang!”

Hunt retired from calling matches last year with no regrets and now hosts Footy Nightline for 3AW.

“I called last year’s Grand Final for CrocMedia and after the game I thought, ‘Well I can’t do much better than that’,” he said.

“When I retired from football at 28 years of age, people said you are only 28 you have got years to go yet, but I knew it was time because the game had passed me by, and after last year’s Grand Final I thought, ‘I cannot do it any better than this, what a good time to hang up the microphone’.”
