An almost two-year probe into a horror rollercoaster incident that left a Melbourne woman fighting for life has come to an end.
Shylah Rodden, 26, was struck by the Rebel Coaster at the Melbourne Royal Show in September 2022.
She suffered serious injuries to her head, pelvis, arms, legs and back when she was hit by the moving ride.
It’s understood the carriage was travelling up to 70km/h at the time of impact, causing Ms Rodden to suffer severe brain damage and crushed bones.
After a 22-month investigation, a WorkSafe spokesman confirmed on Monday that no further action would be taken.
“After careful consideration of the evidence, WorkSafe has determined not to take further action against any duty holder on this matter at this time,” he said.
The Herald Sun understands the probe considered an extensive amount of material to determine whether any duties under the Occupational Health and Safety Act had been breached.
WorkSafe’s investigation found insufficient evidence to prove beyond reasonable doubt any breaches under the act.
In a statement provided exclusively to the Herald Sun last year, Ms Rodden’s mother, Kylie Rodden, said her daughter had “defied the odds” in her recovery.
“We are so grateful to see her progress from the horrific injuries she suffered,” she said.
“She has defied the odds and is now walking, talking and doing things that we were told by doctors, may not be possible.
“Our wish is to keep moving forward and to enable Shylah to continue with her recovery and focus on the incredible progress that she’s making.”
