The man who unintentionally captured the moment a young woman was struck by a fast-moving rollercoaster says he “hasn’t slept” since the horrifying incident.

The graphic footage, which the Herald Sun has chosen not to publish, was uploaded to popular social media platform TikTok in the aftermath of Sunday night’s tragedy at the Melbourne Royal Show.

The short video shows Shylah Rodden, 26, on ground level before she was struck by the moving ride as it completed a loop-the-loop at a high speed.

She was carried along the rail of the ride as it ascended, before she plummeted approximately 9m to the ground when a worker hit an emergency stop button that brought the ride to a jolting stop.

Jordan said he was filming his sister Chloe and his partner Alex on the ride when he accidentally captured the accident.

“All of a sudden, I saw someone getting taken up but at the same time I’m thinking ‘f---, my sister, my partner,” he told 7News.

“But you can see she’d bent down to pick something up. I don’t know if it was a phone or what, but she was so fixated on picking it up that she didn’t even see the ride at all.”

Ms Rodden did not appear to notice the rollercoaster coming towards her, but Jordan heard “screams” from other people in the areas at the carriage approached.

Jordan praised the efforts of first responders over how they handled the situation and the support they offered nearby witnesses.

“I was trying to sign my name at the bottom of my statement and my hand was shaking. I’ve never experienced anything like that and I hope it never happens again,” he said.

Jordan passed the footage onto Victorian Police as part of their investigation.

It comes as investigators were told Ms Rodden snuck inside a fenced-off area to retrieve her dropped mobile phone, despite being told workers would stop the ride and fetch it for her.

Nearby show staff, some of whom gave statements to investigators, told the Herald Sun the ride was regularly stopped so workers could collect dropped keys, phones and wallets from the base of the loop-the-loop.

One worker said Ms Rodden was told she would only have to wait 20 minutes to get her phone back.

Her horrific list of injuries includes brain damage, a broken pelvis, broken arms, legs and ribs.

The Rebel Coaster can travel at speeds up to 70km/h, and at least 10 people were on the ride at the time of impact.

The Melbourne Royal Show said witnesses were being offered counselling in the aftermath of the incident.

In a statement, organisers said the ride reopened on Tuesday after WorkSafe finalised an inspection report.
