A MISCHIEVOUS puppy created havoc in Melbourne’s northwest when it somehow managed to get stuck between two brick walls.

Pixie, a troublesome 12-week old English Setter, was playing in her family’s backyard in Flemington when she became stuck around midday.

Davydd Griffiths was unable to coax the little pup out and had to call an animal rescue specialist to help out.

During the rescue Pixie’s uncle, Lionel, had to be kept indoors and away from the scene, as he wanted to become involved in the operation to free the puppy.

A hammer was used to smash a hole in a garage wall and Pixie was finally freed around 4.30pm.

“My six-year-old son Blake, who was the one who named Pixie, was very happy when he got home,” Mr Griffiths said.

“She is a very naughty little pup ... she was out playing and having a little adventure when she got stuck.

“I don’t know how she managed it but she has jumped into this gap and got wedged between two solid brick walls.

“It was quite a few hours she was stuck there. We just couldn’t coax her out.

“She was wedged very tightly.

“In the end the hammer and drill worked and we got her out.

“I’m just glad we had a happy ending and the rest of my family are very relieved.”

English Setters were traditionally hunting dogs.

They are named for how they crouch low when they find birds so the hunter can throw a net over them.

Their easygoing nature has led to them becoming a popular family dog.
