CATS may be the animal with nine lives but for one Pakenham woman her pet pooch has achieved the rare feat of giving birth to nine male puppies.
Five-year-old Jasmine, a staffordshire bull terrier, had her nine pups on August 14.
Dogs Victoria said it was “extremely rare” for the litter to be all male.
“It’s incredibly rare for the mum to have a huge litter on top of the pups being all the same gender ... the probability is 2 per cent,” Dogs Victoria spokeswoman Sarah Ewenson said.
Owner and breeder Katrina Coulson said the dog was great for families.
“They’re a dog that loves being with the family,” she said.
“I’m addicted to them ... they think they’ve got two legs and that they’re human.
“You can take them for a run, take them swimming or just have them sit on the couch with you; they just want to do everything with you.”
The pups are almost six weeks old and will soon go to their new homes across Victoria.
One will be named Rocky while another will be named Rhaegal, after the Game of Thrones dragon.
