WORK has begun to build floating landings for ferry operators stopping at the Southgate waterfront in Melbourne’s CBD.
The work is part of a $2 million revamp of riverside services for the ferry industry.
Parks Victoria director of Melbourne Marine and Maritime Jo Richards said the Southgate Landing project would improve safety and access for passenger boats at various tides.

“(It) includes the refurbishment of ticket kiosks to improve visitor experience,’’ Ms Richards said.
“The works have been scheduled during winter to minimise the impact on visitors and the commercial tour operators operating from Southgate,’’ she said.
Berths have been established downstream near the Sandridge Bridge for the construction period which is expected to finish next month, depending on the weather.
Melbourne River Cruises and Williamstown Ferries operate services from Southgate to Docklands and Williamstown.
Port Phillip Ferries, run by businessman Paul Little, is also considering a commuter service between Docklands and Church St Bridge.
