Officer survives brutal attack at Port Phillip Prison

A prison officer has been taken to hospital after an inmate at the state’s biggest maximum security jail launched an onslaught causing significant injuries.

A prison officer has been slashed to the face in an attack at a Melbourne maximum security jail.

Police have been called in to investigate after the Port Phillip Prison inmate launched his onslaught at 7pm on Wednesday.

The worker suffered facial injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The victim was said to have had their throat, neck and eye slashed.

Police said the injuries were not life-threatening.

Privately run Port Phillip, at Truganina in Melbourne’s western suburbs, is the state’s biggest maximum security jail.
