A website belonging to a Melbourne-based neo-Nazi site has been removed after the company hosting it found it promoted racism and discrimination.

A “hate” filled website for a Melbourne-based neo-Nazi group has been taken down.

The National Socialist Network site emerged earlier this year and messages posted by members vowed to bring about a “white revolution” and “destroy” the government.

It’s followers — who were believed to be communicating via encrypted messaging service Telegram — posed across Melbourne and Canberra wearing face masks and giving the Hitler salute.

The Herald Sun can reveal the website of the far right group has been ripped down by web hosting company Digital Pacific.

A spokesman said the company didn’t tolerate material that “supports or promotes racism or discrimination against anyone due to race, gender or sexual orientation”.

“With millions of websites hosted on our platforms, we scan for violence, racism, sexual exploitation and other violations on a regular basis and remove these abhorrent sites as we become aware. As a company, we will not tolerate this type of hate to be housed on our system.”

The Anti-Defamation Commission, which discovered the site, welcomed the decision.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the Anti-Defamation Commission, said the removal was a

“victory of decency over hate”.

“We thank the company for listening to our concerns and for demonstrating that Australian neo-Nazis, who have declared war on Jews and other minorities, will never be welcomed in this space,” he said.

“As racial violence dramatically escalates across the world, this site, a cesspool of vicious bigotry and vilification had to go. Sites like NSN, with their rhetoric of incitement and vilification, have the potential to inspire murderers like Brenton Tarrant, who as we know, have committed heartbreaking atrocities.”

Dr Abramovich said sites like the NSN had been allowed to operate online unchecked for too long.

“Digital terrorism poses a grave threat to our way of life and freedom, and we urge providers to start enforcing their own rules more effectively,” he said.

“What we seek is the complete changing of the trajectory of Australia. We don’t care in what way this is achieved. Power must be taken away from our enemies and put into our hands. What we seek is a revolution,” one post on the site read.

When asked about the group, ASIO said extreme right wing groups were more organised, sophisticated and security conscious than before.

“They draw from a diverse variety of ideas and they are attracting a younger membership who display few overt signs of their extremist ideology,” an ASIO spokesman said.

ASIO said Australians in their early teens were being radicalised.
