A motorcyclist is fighting for life after he was struck by a car at a busy Kingsville intersection on Thursday morning.
The vehicles collided just past the intersection of Geelong Road and Geelong Street about 8.15am.
“The male rider of the motorcycle has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries,” a police statement said.
The driver of the car was not injured and stopped at the scene.
“All citybound lanes of Geelong Road are closed at Geelong Street, Kingsville following a serious collision,” a Department of Transport spokesman said.
“Motorists are urged to avoid inbound lanes of Geelong Road and instead use the West Gate Freeway, or consider the M80 Ring Road and Ballarat Road to make their way to the CBD.
“There are significant delays in the area, impacting Williamstown Road and Somerville Road.
“The closure is under the control of Victoria Police.
“All lanes of Geelong Road will open when investigations are complete and it is safe to do so.”
The cause of the collision is ongoing.
