Melbourne might be the world’s second most liveable city, but it doesn’t even make the top 50 in a list of most beautiful cities.

Paris is top in the beauty list compiled by Flightnetwork, while Sydney is the only Australian city to be represented on the table, at ninth.

New York and London came in at number two and three respectively in the rankings compiled by more than 1000 travel writers, bloggers and travel agents for the Canadian website.

Venice, Vancouver, Barcelona, Cape Town, San Francisco and Rome completed the top 10.

Most of the cities are large metropolises but New Zealand tourist hotspot Queenstown was ranked at No. 38.

Melbourne was the world’s most liveable city for seven straight years in a list compiled by the Economist’s Intelligence unit. The city slipped to number two in the global rankings behind Vienna for the past two years.

Vienna was ranked at 19 in Flightnetwork’s World’s 50 Most Beautiful Cities table.

Lord Mayor Sally Capp said she was disappointed Melbourne did not make the list.

“We have incredible parklands, amazing architecture and host many of the country’s best and biggest events,’’ Cr Capp said.

“I’d recommend anyone who was in the judging panel for this list to revisit Melbourne and truly experience everything our city has to offer.”
