IF you had to capture the culture of Melbourne in a hotel room, what would it look like?
A Melbourne Cup vase filled with Dame Edna’s gladioli perhaps? Or maybe a footy flag doona cover or a steaming coffee machine beside the bed and some soy milk in the minibar?
One Melbourne hotel is making sure Victorian vacationers can immerse themselves in Melbourne’s vibrant culture by creating a hotel loft inspired by our city’s famous laneways.
DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Melbourne — Flinders Street has partnered with local street artists, 90 Degrees, to bring the city’s laneways into the hotel room with original artwork, colourful murals, graffitied bed linen and furniture as well as milk crate bedside tables, specially designed edible graffiti snacks and a collection of street-art-themed DVDs and books.
The hotel’s general manager, Garry Lucas, said the collaboration would be a captivating experience.
“Melbourne is recognised as one of the leading street art capitals of the world. Graffiti is not only ingrained in the city’s cultural identity, it is also one of the key attractions for locals and travellers alike,” he said.
“Being located in the heart of the CBD, we are minutes away from many of the city’s best street art laneways such as Hosier, Degraves and AC/DC lanes.
“We thought it was the perfect inspiration and the best way for guests to relish in this vibrant side of Melbourne’s culture, from morning to night.”
The “Graffiti Loft” package is available to book until August 13.
