A man has fronted court, charged with the murder of his housemate in Burwood.

Rajesh Gade, 42, allegedly stabbed his 39-year-old housemate to death during an argument over chores.

Emergency services were called to the Winton St address about 11pm on Tuesday where they found the wounded victim, who died at the scene.

Mr Gade was arrested at the house and fronted the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday night.

The court heard it was Mr Gade’s first time in custody.

He was remanded until his next court appearance on July 30.

A third housemate who stopped by the home on Wednesday to get some belongings for work told the Herald Sun how the two men were arguing over chores, which led to the fatal stabbing.

“He (the alleged offender) was pretty drunk and it was a pretty normal fight about housework and chores and stuff,” he said.

The housemate didn’t reveal what unfolded or if he actually saw the stabbing take place.

One neighbour, who didn’t want to be named, said the house had a “rich history” and was once a “drug rehabilitation house”.

“There was always stuff happening there,” she said.

An ex-resident of the street, who came down after he heard about the stabbing on the news, said he believed the house was last rented “by a group of students” and he thinks “they are still there”.
