A second stabbing has unfolded at a Centrelink office just weeks after a staff member was allegedly knifed by an aggressive customer.

Police were called to Centrelink at Harvester Rd, Sunshine about 12.15pm on Friday amid reports two male customers were involved in an altercation.

It is understood one man, 37, sustained upper-body injuries after he was allegedly stabbed.

The victim was yet to make a formal complaint though the Herald Sun understands police were continuing with investigations.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said they were called to reports of a “verbal altercation” between two agitated men outside the business.

“A 37-year-old man of an unknown address sustained a minor injury and was taken to hospital for treatment,” she said.

It follows a separate incident at Airport West on May 23 where worker Joeanne Cassar was allegedly stabbed by Essendon man Elijah Chase, 34.

Ms Cassar was rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition, suffering puncture wounds to her lower back.

The Herald Sun later revealed Mr Chase was named on a ‘banned list’, which led to Ms Cassar requesting he leave the site after he first attempted to enter hours before the attack.

It is alleged Mr Chase returned a second time in the afternoon brandishing a knife.

Ms Cassar reportedly saw the knife in Mr Chase’s hand just before he turned the weapon against her, according to husband Andrew Giusti.

“He was on a ‘banned list’ and Jo recognised him which is why she wanted to control entry to the site … she took one for the team,” he said.

The alleged horrific attack prompted former Victoria Police chief commissioner Graham Ashton to announce he would lead an urgent review of security at Services Australia centres, the agency that oversees Centrelink.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam/CCTV footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
